How to research NFL stats with Fourth & Data

By Fourth & Data · Updated October 6, 2026 · English guide

Fourth & Data is an NFL research tool that turns English questions into tables, charts and inspectable SQL. Start with free box-score rankings and player game logs. Pro adds analysis across available play-by-play, Next Gen Stats and charting datasets, with CSV exports for your own research.

How do I find NFL player rankings and game logs?

  1. Name the position or player, metric and time period. For example, ask for rushing yards for running backs this season.
  2. Run the question and check the returned season, week and team columns.
  3. Sort the result table and open the SQL to inspect the filters. Check whether the result is truncated before treating it as a complete ranking.

How do I compare quarterbacks using EPA?

EPA measures how a play changes expected points. EPA per dropback is useful for comparing passing efficiency within a defined sample. Specify the season, situation and minimum sample rather than treating a few plays as evidence of a player's overall ability. Sacks and pass attempts both count as dropbacks in the example below.

Which quarterbacks had the best EPA per dropback in the red zone in 2025, minimum 60 dropbacks?

This Pro example filters to the regular season and the opponent's 20-yard line or closer, includes sacks, and requires minimum 60 dropbacks. The full table and CSV are Pro features. A free preview shows part of the answer when a preview is available.

Where does the data come from?

The warehouse uses nflverse open data. Datasets have different coverage: box scores, play-by-play, Next Gen Stats, PFR advanced stats and FTN charting are not available for every season. Check the current data coverage before asking a cross-season question. See the nflverse data dictionaries for field definitions.

Do I need Pro for NFL stats research?

Free covers supported box-score questions and the public dashboards. Pro is useful when you need situational questions such as red-zone EPA, advanced datasets, or CSV exports. Compare Free and Pro pricing and trial terms before subscribing.

Can I ask questions in another language?
